FIRST YOU ORGANIZE YOUR PHOTO'S

  1. From any photo window (Windows Explorer, My Computer or "My Pictures" you can create new folders and subfolders this way:

Click the File Menu and "New", then "Folder"
Windows presents a highlighted folder ready for you to type it's name for ex "2005-08 Tahoe Vacation" and then hit enter.

 2.  I teach "ORIGIN" & "DESTINATION" as the keywords for many windows file organizing techniques. So your new folder is your destination.

You open it and then "shrink" it (restore down, middle windows control upper right).  Clicking down in the title bar (colored bar across top of window) you drag the window up to one corner or the other.

Then you double click to open "My Pictures" and the subfolder that contains the pictures you want to move.
Holding down your control key you can randomly select the photos.  (best done in thumbnail view).  If it is a large number of pictures you can hold down the shift key after clicking the 1st photo file, and then click the last in a group ..all in between will be selected.

3. It is helpful to rename your pictures so the camera numbers of each batch do not end up the same thus overwriting and losing your original set of pictures.  While they are selected, you can right click in the first photo file and click "Rename".  When you type in the name, be sure to leave or add the extension, usually .jpg after the file name.  Hit enter. They have the same name and are consecutively numbered.  This is also helpful if you are trying to force your photos into a certain sequence numbering different groups 1, 2 etc followed by a text name such as tahoe casinos.

You can then click down in the select area and drag the whole bunch into the waiting new folder window.

Now lets make a PowerPoint presentation and put it on the Web.  Then we'll make a CD.  We're doing the ultra simple and fast so you could take the trip, off load the photos to your computer.. organize and name them and post them onto the web.  You can then immediately send the link to your hosts or companions .. VOILA!

Adding notes, special effects and narration are other lessons that you can add later according to your time and patience.

4. In the photo folder, select all the photo's in it (CTRL A or Edit Menu and "Select All")

Right click in the select area and click "Send To" and click Microsoft Office.  In that list click PowerPoint.

Windows opens power point and loads all of your pictures into the file.  Before doing anything else, Save the file, naming it for the subject or event.
