About McAffee Anti-Virus Software ......
If you have McAffee Virus Scan you MUST be updating it online and doing
full hard drive scans regularly (not just the startup scan). I DO NOT
RECOMMEND MCAFFEE SCAN ONLINE. And it's difficult to get past all the
selling when you go to the McAffee home page.
So here are some links that should help.
If your McAffee is version 3x (older one) you can only update it to virus's found before the December 16th, 1999. (Click & scroll down for info on this). At this McAffee link you can download a "DAT" file for newer than 3x versions. **To determine your current version of VirusScan: Open VirusScan and select "About" from the Help menu to determine what version of VirusScan you have, what engine you are running, and what DAT files are installed. (If your engine is 4.1.20 or earlier, you should download the SuperDAT file.)
This is explained at the McAffee Updates-Download page, and you can click on the DAT file you need. Then you have to find it and install it!! Feel free to write if you get stuck in this process .. or call if you'd rather switch to Norton. Otherwise you must buy the new version and pay to update it.
